I came across some diamond plate foil at Frozen CPU while browsing their site. After seeing their sample photos, I thought that this would be great on the motherboard tray! But why stop there? So I decided to do the inside of the case in dark blue, and the outside back panel in purple for a little contrast. Rather than the small 12" or 24" square material from Frozen CPU, I got some rolls from another source, 36 inches wide, and about 2-4 feet of each. More than enough for the case.
I like how the rivet heads get covered, and some of the extraneous holes get hidden. Yes, there are a couple of wrinkles, but not that bad from a distance. Now it's shiny- oh, joy!
After applying the foil, all of those tiny little openings had to be cut out. But the results are worth it!
At first, I left the foil off behind the fan. But the gray showed. Apply some more foil, and more trimming! You might notice (or maybe not at first) that I used black screws for the case fan. Later I replaced the silver power supply screws with black ones as well. I even decided to use black screws to mount the motherboard.
I also removed the original gray metal drive bays by drilling out the rivets. I salvaged a nice shiny chrome drive bay from another case and riveted the new one in place.
